Ilhama Gasimova, a leading research fellow at the Department of Mythology of the Institute of Folklore of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences (ANAS), Doctor of Philosophy in Philology and Associate Professor, appeared as a live guest on “Güne Davam,” a program broadcast by Azerbaijan Television (AzTV).

The program began with an extensive discussion of the history of Azerbaijani kelaghayi (traditional silk headscarves), their place in the national and cultural heritage of the country and their artistic features.

The discussion then focused on the role of Azerbaijani folk tales in shaping children’s moral and spiritual worlds, the influence of fairy-tale characters on our lives, the portrayal of good and evil in folklore and the concept of heroism in epic narratives.

In her thoughts Ilhama Gasimova mentioned that folk tales were not merely a form of entertainment; they also transmitted from generation to generation the life experience, moral values and worldview that the Azerbaijani people have developed over centuries..

The discussion also highlighted the struggle for justice and freedom, bravery, wisdom, national unity and moral responsibility as reflected in folk tales. Ilhama Gasimova noted that passing on the national folklore heritage to children in an appropriate manner was essential for strengthening their connection to their mother tongue, national and moral values and cultural identity.

She noted that the heroic journeys and moral qualities of these legendary figures should be preserved in the memory of younger generations. She also mentioned the importance of fostering in children a love for their homeland, a commitment to national values and a strong sense of responsibility. According to her, today’s children should grow into tomorrow’s builders, defenders of the homeland, and heroes of the future.
