The regular scientific seminar was held at the Department of Folklore and Written Literature of the Institute of Folklore of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences (ANAS). Along with the department’s staff, the seminar was attended by researchers from the Department of Folklore Theory and the Department of Dede Gorgud.

At the scientific seminar, Ulkar Aliyeva, a leading researcher at the department, Doctor of Philosophy in Philology and Associate Professor, delivered a presentation entitled “Urban Folklore in Azerbaijani Fictional Prose”.

The speaker noted that in the age of information and the internet, minor folklore genres were acquiring new forms of content and expression and were becoming increasingly widespread in the modern urban environment. This process had also found reflection in Azerbaijani fictional prose.

“Scientific research into urban folklore is one of the topical areas of contemporary folklore studies. The term “urban folklore” was introduced into scholarly literature by folklore scholar and Professor Azad Nabiyev. The studies conducted by Professor Fuzuli Bayat are of particular significance in this field. Examining the manifestations of urban folklore in contemporary Azerbaijani prose makes it possible to reveal new aspects of the relationship between folklore and written literature”, Ulkar Aliyeva noted.

The exchange of views was held, the presentation and questions related to the topic were answered. The scientific seminar continued with further discussion.
