The Institute of Folklore of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences (ANAS) is consistently engaged in advancing scientific and cultural relations with the Turkic world. Azerbaijan–Kyrgyzstan relations hold an important place in the research activities of the Institute.

It was told to AZERTAC from the Institute that one of the major research projects carried out in the field of studying the folklore heritage of Turkic peoples was the “Folklore of the Turkic Peoples” series.

The series is of great importance for introducing the rich folklore heritage of various Turkic peoples to the Azerbaijani academic community, systematically studying individual folklore traditions and conducting comparative research into the common Turkic folklore space. In this regard, the study of Kyrgyz folklore is one of the principal research areas of the Institute of Folklore, particularly its Department of the Folklore of Turkic Peoples.

The rich epic heritage of the Kyrgyz people including the epic “Manas”, one of the outstanding masterpieces of world epic culture, as well as other examples of epic, ritual and oral-poetic creativity, occupies an important place in the Turkological research conducted at the Institute.

Kyrgyz scholars regularly participate in international events organized by the Institute of Folklore. At the same time, Institute researchers are represented at various academic events held in Kyrgyzstan.

The Institute plans to continue its efforts to further strengthen scientific and cultural relations between Azerbaijan and Kyrgyzstan, deepen comparative studies of Kyrgyz and Azerbaijani folklore, conduct research on the epic “Manas” and other Kyrgyz epics, prepare joint scholarly publications and organize international academic events and collaborative research projects.
