The regular scientific seminar was held at the Department of Ritual Folklore and National Culinary Tradition of the Institute of Folklore of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences (ANAS). During the seminar, a presentation titled “The Folklore Semantics of Islamic Religious Rituals” was delivered by the Doctor of Sciences in Philology, Associate Professor Galib Sayilov.

In his presentation Galib Sayilov mentioned that Islamic rituals were not merely a collection of religious ceremonies, but also represent cultural and spiritual phenomena with profound moral, social and symbolic significance. He noted that, from a semantic perspective, these rituals expressed the relationship between individuals and the Creator, society and their own inner world. He also pointed out that the folk festival of Nowruz had evolved into a major celebration by incorporating several significant occasions in the life of the ethnos.

According to the researcher’s thought the Islamic rituals in Azerbaijani folk culture had developed through mutual interaction with a number of traditional celebrations. From a scholarly perspective, they were studied as a system of religious meanings and constitute an important component of Islamic civilization.

The seminar continued with extensive discussions. Following the presentation, the Head of the Department of Ritual Folklore and National Culinary Tradition, Doctor of Sciences in Philology, Associate Professor Agaverdi Khalil,  PhD, Associate Professor Vafa Ibrahim and PhD, Associate Professor Fidan Gasimova, PhD Shehla Huseynli, PhD Sureyya Alizade, senior researcher Matanat Khalilova shared their scholarly opinions and observations on the research presented at the seminar and wished the researcher continued success in his future academic activity.
