Ashiq poetry and ozan-ashiq traditions were discussed in Sadnik Pirsultanli’s researches in the Department of Ashiq Creativity
A regular scientific seminar was held at the Department of Ashiq Creativity of the Institute of Folklore of ANAS. At the seminar the department’s senior researcher, Doctor of Philosophy in Philology Sahiba Pashayeva, made a presentation titled “Ashiq Creativity in Sadnik Pirsultanli’s Researches”.
The presentation noted that ashiq creativity was one of the richest branches of Azerbaijani oral folk literature and constituted an important part of the nation’s spiritual and cultural heritage. It was mentioned that throughout his academic career, Doctor of Philological Sciences, Professor Sadnik Pasha Pirsultanli paid special attention to the collection, study and promotion of the ozan-ashiq heritage and systematically researched the theoretical foundations of ashiq poetry, the classification of saz melodies, performance characteristics and the historical development of ashiq schools.
In the seminar it was also mentioned that Sadnik Pirsultanli collected folklore samples from various regions, studied ashiq environments and carried out significant work toward preserving saz and verbal traditions and passing them on to future generations. It was further noted that during the First Karabakh War, he contributed to boosting soldiers’ morale by performing in combat zones with the “Koroglu Cry” ensemble, which he had founded.
The seminar continued with discussions on the topic.
