The scientific seminar was held at the department “Dede Gorgud” of the Institute of Folklore of ANAS. The report was made by Naila Mirzayeva, a senior researcher of the department Dede Gorgud, on the topic “Poetic characteristics of proverbs and sayings in the epic “The Book of Dede Gorgud”.

The speaker first mentioned that proverbs and sayings were one of the oldest and richest genres of Azerbaijani folklore, stating that proverbs were an artistic expression of the life experience, worldview and wisdom gained by the people over the centuries.

Mirzayeva pointed out that proverbs and sayings not only enrich the spoken language, but also preserve the spiritual memory of the people. Other colleagues participating in the seminar - Head of the Department Dede Gorgud, Professor Ramazan Gafarli, PhD, Associate Professor Khuraman Karimova, PhD, Associate Professor Aynura Safarova, PhD Khalida Mammadova, Researcher Gulkhara Ahmadova, as well as Professor Almaz Hasangizi also spoke about the theme and expressed their opinions.

At the end Professor R. Gafarli said that the report discussed at the seminar was relevant in terms of general direction and that the author tried to investigate the poetic characteristics of paremiological units in the context of the epic “The Book of Dede Gorgud”. According to R. Gafarli’s thought, the choice of topic was successful, because the poetic system of proverbs and parables in the epic had truly significant scientific potential as a separate object of research.

Taking into account all the speeches and suggestions, the speaker was given certain recommendations for further development of the topic and conducting the research in a comparative manner.
