Doctoral students of the Institute of Folklore of ANAS spoke at the International Symposium

The doctoral students of the ANAS Institute of Folklore participated in the International Seljuk Turkic Postgraduate Student Symposium held in Konya on May 7-9, 2026.

Amil Azimli, a doctoral student at the Institute, participated in the symposium and made a report on the topic “From outlaw to folk hero: a comparative analysis of fugitive and Zeybek folklore”.

The reports such as “Mourning in the digital environment: New forms of mourning rituals of Azerbaijani Turks” by Jamila Novruzova, “Food Culture and Symbolic Meaning in the Folklore of Turkic Peoples” by Aytakin Zeynalova, “Taboo violation and punishment in legends: Folkloric mechanisms of collective ethical memory” by Elfane Jaarchiyeva were made in online format.

In the reports the various aspects of the folklore of the Turkic peoples, the modern transformation of ritual traditions, collective memory, folk heroism and symbolic culture were investigated.

It should be noted that the speakers at the symposium are doctoral students of the Institute of Folklore for the year 2025. The topics presented are the initial results of research in the field of social-anthropological folklore studies.
