The next scientific seminar was held at the Department of Folklore and Written Literature of the Institute of Folklore of ANAS. In addition to the employees of the institute, the seminar was attended by 4th-year students of Sumgayit State University and Baku Slavic University who had a research internship at the Institute of Folklore.
The scientific seminar began with a report by Gulsumkhanim Hasilova, a leading scientific researcher at the Department of Folklore and Written Literature, Doctor of Philosophy in Philology, Associate Professor, on the topic “Folklore motifs in the novel “The Adventure of Secrets” by Kamal Abdulla.
In the report noted that the artistic heritage of People’s Writer, Honored Scientist, Academician Kamal Abdulla is distinguished by the use of folklore sources and a creative approach to them. In his novels, as well as in his narratives and stories, the writer refers to folklore themes and motifs, folklore poetics in the moral and spiritual characteristics of the heroes and in the socio-philosophical understanding of the historical period.
Then the senior researcher of the Department of Folklore and Written Literature, Doctor of Philosophy in Philology, Associate Professor Shabnam Mammadova presented her report on the topic “Appeal to folklore in Azerbaijani prose as an artistic approach of the author (1960-1980s)”.
In the report it is mentioned that the 1960-1980 years are considered a period of renewal for Azerbaijani prose in terms of both idea-content and artistic form. At this stage the writers are not satisfied with describing only modern life events, but also turn to national-spiritual roots, people’s memory and folklore heritage. Appeal to folklore is not just a commitment to tradition, but acts as an important artistic approach consciously chosen by the author and strengthens the ideological and aesthetic load of the works.
Finally, the exchange of views was held on the presented topics and questions were answered.
