On the 18^th of April 2026 an event titled “Digital Encyclopedia of the Azerbaijani Language: Wikipedia 25” was held on Khayal Island in Baku, dedicated to the 25^th anniversary of Wikipedia.

The event discussed the history of Wikipedia, its development stages, as well as the role of open knowledge platforms in modern society and presented the technical capabilities of the platform to the participants. The event was attended by members of parliament, the regional chair for Central and Eastern Europe of Wikipedia Barbara Klen, as well as representatives of various organizations.

Nigar Abdullayeva, Wikipedia staff member at the Institute of Folklore of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences, also attended the event and joined the discussions.

It should be noted that, on the personal initiative of scientists from the Institute of Folklore of ANAS, work continues to enrich the content of Wikipedia. Thus, 6 edits and 25 new articles were created during 2025. During the first four months of 2026, these indicators increased to 22 edits and 67 new articles.

The Folklore Institute continues its activities towards the dissemination of open knowledge and the development of digital resources in the Azerbaijani language.
