Voice of the Folklorist: the guest of the next edition was Matanat Abbasova
The next issue of the “Voice of the Folklorist” project has been published. The guest of the issue was the head of the South Azerbaijan Folklore Department of the Institute of Folklore of ANAS, Doctor of Sciences in Philology, Associate Professor Matanat Abbasova.
In her speech Matanat Abbasova spoke about the place and importance of South Azerbaijani folklore in the general folklore system of the Azerbaijani people. The scientist noted that this folklore area was distinguished by both historical depth and richness and reflects the national-cultural memory of millions of Azerbaijanis.
In the speech the special role of the folklore environment of Urmia, Tabriz, Ardabil, Zanjan and other historical regions was mentioned. It was noted that these cities and regions were important cultural centers in terms of collecting, preserving and transmitting Azerbaijani folklore. In particular, the importance of Tabriz as one of the ancient cultural centers of the East was highlighted.
The scholar mentioned that folklore was not only literary material, but also acted as an expression of the historical memory, fighting spirit and spiritual world of the people. In this context, it was noted that the theme of Tabriz and the motifs of separation occupied a special place in folklore.
