Great Turkmens and modern Turkic peoples: a new scientific view of ethnic history

By the decision of the Scientific Council of the Institute of Folklore of ANAS, the monograph “Great Turkmens and Modern Turkic Peoples” by the head of the Department of Folklore of the Institute, Professor Afzaladdin Asker, has been published. The monographic study consists of an introduction entitled “The Reason for Writing the Book”, three chapters entitled “The Formation and Ethnopolitical History of the Oghuz Nation”, “The Turkmens” and “The End of the Ethno and New Ethnopolitical Unions”, sources and summaries in Russian and English.

The introduction criticizes the historiographical approach that presents national history in a political context, leaving ethnic history aside and draws attention to the negative effects of this attitude on historical thought. To fill this gap, the author has included the problem of ethnic history in the study.

The paragraph about the Turkmen language and literature in the study is particularly interesting, as it requires a reconsideration of some ideas that have prevailed in Turkology for many years.

Ethnic history serves as a context for the accurate and honest study of literature, language, folklore and ethnic culture as a whole. In this regard, this monographic study presented to readers can be useful not only to historians, but also to philologists.
