Head of the Ashiq Creativity Department of the ANAS Institute of Folklore, member of the Ashiq Union, Doctor of Philosophy in Philology, Associate Professor Tajir Samimi (Gurbanov) was a guest on the “History from the Saz” program and spoke on the topic of the Western Azerbaijani ashiqs.

In the program Tajir Samimi provided extensive information about the history, rich traditions and subtleties of the Western Azerbaijani ashiq art. He said that Western Azerbaijan had been known as the cradle of music and words since ancient times.

The scientist noted that as a result of the Armenian aggression, these ashiq environments were gradually destroyed and folk artists were scattered to different regions of Azerbaijan. Despite it, the ashiqs continued to keep the people’s sorrows, joys and historical memory alive through music and words.

The ceremony mentioned that the Western Azerbaijan ashiq environment is one of the important cultural centers reflecting the richness of Azerbaijani ashiq art. Western Azerbaijani folk artists have ensured the continuity of this heritage by passing on the customs and traditions of their environment and the secrets of their art to their students.
