Gumru Shahriyar, an employee of the Institute of Folklore, gave a report on the epic series “Forty Batyr” in Kazakhstan

Gumru Shahriyar, the senior researcher of the Department of Folklore of Turkic Peoples of the Institute of Folklore of ANAS, Doctor of Philosophy in Philology, Associate Professor, was on the scientific excursion to Kazakhstan. The scientist gave a lecture at the Institute of Literature and Art named after M.O. Auezov.

The meeting, chaired by the director of the Institute, Doctor of Philosophy in Philology Asgar Turganbayev, discussed in detail the structure, content, research problems of the epic series “Forty batyr” and the historical figures mentioned in the series.

As part of the visit, an international scientific roundtable was held at the Al-Farabi Kazakh National University on the topic “Typology and serialization process of the Turkic epic: structure and poetic circulation”. At the event Gumru Shahriyar delivered a report named “The epic series about the forty batyrs: structure and formation”. The scholars who spoke mentioned the relevance of the topic and noted that the series “Forty Batyr” held an important place in the Kazakh epic tradition and the historical and cultural memory of the Turkic world as a whole.

The meetings and discussions held during the visit are of great importance in terms of expanding scientific cooperation among the Institute of Folklore of ANAS, the Institute of Literature and Art named after M.O.Auezov and the Al-Farabi Kazakh National University and conducting a comparative and comprehensive study of the epic heritage of the Turkic peoples, especially the epic series “Forty Batyr”.
