Director of the Folklore Institute Hikmat Guliyev met with Ojal Oghuz Chairman of the Turkish National Commission for UNESCO

Director of the Institute of Folklore of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences (ANAS), Doctor of Sciences in Philology Hikmat Guliyev met with Professor Ojal Oghuz the Chairman of the UNESCO National Commission for Turkey in Ankara. During the meeting Hikmat Guliyev provided detailed information about the scientific research carried out at the Institute of Folklore of ANAS, the results achieved in recent years, the structure of the institute, the process of renewal from a scientific and methodological point of view, the work done to understand and study folklore as a dynamic cultural system, digital transformations and research carried out in the field of internet folklore.

It was noted that at the modern stage the study of folklore not only as a text, but also as a collective cultural memory, national identity and social communicative system has been identified as a priority direction. The meeting exchanged views on the issues of preserving, documenting and transmitting from generation to generation examples of multinational heritage included in UNESCO’s Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity and discussed the prospects for possible scientific and institutional cooperation in this area.

The importance of cooperation was mentioned, in particular, in the joint study of elements of the common intangible cultural heritage of the Turkic peoples and their presentation on international platforms.

During the meeting Hikmat Guliyev presented a plaque to Professor Ojal Oghuz for his contributions to the methodological study, protection and promotion of Turkish folklore in the international scientific and cultural environment.

Hikmat Guliyev was presented a prestigious collection of books published by the UNESCO National Commission for Turkey.
