The book “Introduction to Folklore” (Baku, Turan evi, 2025, 284 p.) by Doctor of Sciences in Philology, Professor Almaz Hasangizi has been published at the Institute of Folklore of ANAS. The first edition of the textbook was published in 2015. Over the past period, the author has worked seriously on the work, improving it, adding some chapters (“Folklore and Philosophy”, “Folklore and Logic”) and enriching it with new scientific sources.

As it is known, during recent years special attention has been paid to the importance of multidisciplinary analysis and the expansion of interdisciplinary connections in the process of applying innovative methods, while using new teaching methods in higher and secondary schools. Taking this factor into account, an issue that has been discussed in other textbooks to date - the problem of folklore's relationship with other sciences - is presented in a different way and explained in more detail in the book. Here, the problem of folklore’s connection with mythology, written literature, linguistics, history, geography, religion, pedagogy, psychology, mathematics, music, medicine and cookery is examined with reference to texts. The book cites the most important theoretical sources on the subject and special attention is paid to research on folklore in Turkey, Southern Azerbaijan and in emigration.

The book “Introduction to Folklore” is intended for students studying at the bachelor’s and master’s levels of humanities faculties of higher education institutions. At the same time, the work can also be used by researchers conducting research on folklore and specialists teaching this subject.

It should be noted that the scientific editor of the book, published with the support of the Institute of Folklore of ANAS and the decision of the Scientific Council of Baku Girls’ University, is Doctor of Sciences in Philology, Professor Maharram Gasimli, the reviewers are Doctor of Sciences in Philology, Professor Jalil Gariboglu and Doctor of Sciences in Philology, Professor Ulker Nabiyeva.
