Folklorist scholars discussed scientific and theoretical issues of folklore in the context of “Rural conservatism, urban liberalism and internet carnavalism”
The next episode of the program “Brainstorm”, a joint project of the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Azerbaijan and DAHA.tv, is dedicated to the topic “Folklore in a traditional and techno-cultural environment: rural conservatism, urban liberalism and internet carnivalism”.
The guests of the program were Doctor of Sciences in Philology Sarkhan Khavari, Doctor of Sciences in Philology Hikmat Guliyev and Doctor of Sciences in Philology Safa Garayev. In the program, moderated by the well-known writer, poet and publicist Agshin Yenisey, the scholars analyzed a number of topical theoretical and methodological problems of contemporary folklore studies from various aspects.
At the center of the discussion was the idea that folklore, currently the leading line of world folklore studies, was not just a “textual” phenomenon, but rather a living cultural process closely linked to socio-anthropological and psychological dynamics. The scholars noted that one of the most important tasks facing modern folklore studies was to examine folklore functions not only through its textual structure, but also in various social spaces, such as traditional rural and urban culture, as well as the virtual environment.
As a result, the discussions held at the program “Brainstorm” once again revealed the relevance of folklore studies both in the scientific-intellectual sphere and in modern socio-cultural practice and mentioned the importance of approaching folklore not only as a legacy of the past, but as a constantly renewed social energy.
