Important issues were discussed at the Scientific Council of the Institute of Folklore
A number of important scientific and scientific-organizational issues were discussed at the meeting of the Scientific Council of the Institute of Folklore of ANAS. At the meeting the decisions were made on approval of dissertations and scientific leaders of doctoral students on the specialty of folklore studies, work done in the field of international scientific cooperation, as well as elections for vacant positions. The meeting was attended by the administration of the Institute, members of the Council and persons related to the issues on the agenda.
Opening the meeting Director of the Institute, Doctor of Sciences in Philology Hikmat Guliyev informed about the scientific and cultural events that the Institute of Folklore had been actively participating during recent years. The scientist, speaking in particular about the event “The Academy’s Zangezurname: From Folklore Collections to Academic Research” organized by ANAS within the framework of the XI Baku International Book Fair, noted that the Institute of Folklore presented more than 30 publications dedicated to the folklore of Karabakh, Western Azerbaijan and Zangezur at the exhibition.
Hikmat Guliyev also gave information about the international scientific symposium “From Ashiq Alasgar to Uzeyir Hajibeyli: Cultural Codes of the Turkic World”, co-organized by the Institute of Folklore. He mentioned that, according to the decision of the Presidium of ANAS, it was planned to publish the symposium materials.
Later, the head of the Department of Folklore of Turkic Peoples, Doctor of Sciences in Philology, Professor Afzaladdin Asker made a report on the theme “Modern Problems of Azerbaijani Folklore Studies”. Focusing on the issues of collecting, systematizing, publishing, cataloging and archiving folklore, he noted that the quality of folklore research primarily depended on the collection and publication of folk-art samples based on academic principles. Speaking at the presentation, Doctor of Sciences in Philology Safa Garayev and Professor Fuzuli Bayat noted the relevance of the topic and stressed the importance of continuous discussion of contemporary problems of folklore studies and the development of theoretical and methodological approaches.
The Scientific Council meeting also considered the issue of approving the dissertation topics and scientific supervisors of doctoral students admitted to the doctoral program of the Institute of Folklore in 2025.
