The employee of the Institute of Folklore took part in the 13th International Symposium of Altai communities in Hungary

Aynur Ibrahimova, the employee of the Institute of Folklore of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences, Doctor of Philosophy in Philology, delivered a report at the 13th International Altai Communities Symposium held at the University of Szeged, Hungary. In addition to being a member of the board, the scientist also moderated the department at this prestigious scientific event.

Traditionally organized in different countries every year, the symposium was held this time with the cooperation of the Prime Minister of Hungary, the Rectorate of the University of Szeged, the Turkish Cooperation and Coordination Agency (TIKA), the Atatürk Supreme Council for Culture, Language and History, the Turkish History Council, the Union of Turkic World Municipalities, ISTESOB, the Organization of Turkic States and other institutions.

Nearly 150 scientists and researchers from Turkey, Azerbaijan, Hungary, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Japan, Korea, Mongolia, China, Chile, Germany and the Russian Federation participated in the three-day intensive discussions and a total of 135 scientific reports were presented. Aynur Ibrahimova, the employee of the Institute of Folklore, who made a report on the theme “Naming in Azerbaijani Turks and its national-ethnic meaning”, mentioned that the naming motif was a magical ritual that complements the epic biography of the hero in lullabies, fairy tales, proverbs and epics, as well as had an actual content for all times. She estimated the naming tradition as an important ethnographic phenomenon reflecting the mythological thought, religious beliefs, social structure and national identity of the Azerbaijani Turks. The scientist mentioned that the tradition of naming continues to nowadays as an example of cultural heritage that confirms the spiritual richness and national identity of our people.
