National education and folklore issues were investigated at the Institute of Folklore
By the decision of the Scientific Council of the Institute of Folklore of ANAS the book “National education and folklore” by the leading researcher of the department Dede Gorgud of the Institute, PhD in Philology Khuraman Karimova was published. In the book it is said about the role of Azerbaijani folklore in national education, the level of use of samples of oral folk literature and children’s works written in folklore style in the native language textbooks and children’s press for primary grades compiled from the second half of the 19th century to nowadays. The book consists of a preface and five chapters. In the preface the author reveals the purpose of the study and the reasons for the emphasis on folklore and works written in this style in the educational process.
The first chapter is about the pedagogical essence of folklore texts. It deals with the characteristic features of children’s folklore and the role of folklore in the mental and spiritual development of children.
The second chapter is about the level of use of folklore in native language textbooks. This chapter compares and analyzes the textbooks of the native language of the second half of the 19th century, as well as the 20th century in Azerbaijan.
In the third chapter the examples of children’s press from the beginning of the last century to modern times are studied. The fourth chapter is about the position of children’s works in education, written in the style of folklore. The works of the first enlightened writers, as well as children’s writers and poets of the Soviet and independence period, are involved in the analysis, the role of these works in the formation of children’s spirituality is mentioned.
In the last chapter the author studies the issues of attitude to Azerbaijani folklore in primary school native language textbooks compiled during the independence period. It also depends on the fact that some folklore genres have a specific role in the educational process-the formation of students’ attention, speech development, acquisition of writing skills, strengthening memory, culture of behavior, aesthetic education and so on.
In the last chapter the author investigates the issues of attitude to Azerbaijani folklore in primary school native language textbooks compiled during the independence period.
The scientific editor of the book is Doctor of Sciences in Philology, Professor Ramazan Gafarli, reviewers are PhD in Philology, associate professor Laman Vagifgizi (Suleymanova) and PhD in Philology Nizami Adishirinov.
The book can be used by folklorists, researchers of the pedagogical field, students of Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees of philology and pedagogy faculties of higher schools.
