The associate professor of the Institute of Folklore made a report at the book presentation
The presentation ceremony of the book “Ali Dede peak of Azerbaijani music” dedicated to Ali Zulfugar oglu Karimov (Kalvalı Ali Dede), one of the prominent representatives of Azerbaijani folk art, a skillful performer of wind instruments such as trumpet, balaban, pipe, author of more than 70 dance tunes, was organized by the Azerbaijan National Conservatory.
At the event PhD in Philology, Associate Professor Elchin Galiboglu, leading researcher at the Institute of Folklore of ANAS (Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences), also delivered a speech. He mentioned that Kalvali Ali Dede had made unique contributions to the development of contemporary Azerbaijani trumpet and balaban music. The master, who established a distinct school within this art form, revealed the full expressive potential of these instruments through his performance. Two main qualities stand out in his creativity: a magnificent sense of combativeness and the expression of an emotional outcry. Among the master’s well-known melodies are: “Heyvagulu”, “Alchagulu”, “Koroglu Nagarasi”, “Gahramani”, “Innabi”, “Afruze”, “Yasameni”, “Dag chicheyi”, “Azerbaijani Dance”, “Turkish Dance” and others. These pieces still adorn Azerbaijani weddings today. In his speech he spoke about Kalvali Ali Dede’s contributions to the development of Azerbaijani music, as well as to the ashiq art, he shared memories he had heard about the final years of the master’s life, commented on the artistic quality of his repertoire and mentioned the importance of studying the work of such artists in order to ensure the continuous embodiment of the national spirit.
