As we reported, on the 17^th of March in 2025 the Central Scientific Library (CSL) of ANAS hosted the International Scientific Symposium on “National and spiritual values in ashiq art” in connection with the 100^th anniversary of the outstanding representative of the Azerbaijani ashiq art of the 20^th century Mikayil Azafli.

The event was co-organized by the Institute of Folklore of ANAS, Kars Qafqaz University State Conservatory, Ankara University of Music and Fine Arts Ashiq Tradition Application and Research Center, Tovuz region Charitable Society and World Garapapag Turks Foundation.

After the opening meeting and section meetings, the closing ceremony of the symposium was held.

Director of the Institute of Folklore of ANAS, PhD. in Philology, associate professor Hikmat Guliyev noted the importance of bringing master artist Mikayil Azafli’s activity to the agenda in the context of modern opportunities, studying it in depth on the basis of new scientific approaches and views, bringing it to the new generations. The scientist mentioned that, along with the scientists and specialists from different countries such as Azerbaijan, Turkey, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Germany and others took part in it. He said that more than 50 reports were heard at the event. The interesting reports were presented at eight section meetings of the symposium organized in hybrid format, useful and active discussions were held.

Then the head of the section of the symposium Professor Fuzuli Bayat, Professor Hasan Babur, the researcher from the Caucasus and living in Germany, made reports and highly appreciated the event. They noted that wide discussions were held around the reports, which were met with interest by the participants of the symposium. Then those who served in the organization of the symposium were awarded with the certificate of gratitude.

At the end of the event the concert program dedicated to Ashiq Mikayil Azafli’s activity performed by ashiqs was presented.
