On the 30^th of September in 2024 the head of the department of Folklore and written literature of the Institute of Folklore of ANAS, doctor of philology, associate professor Leyla Mammadova gave a lecture on the theme “Azerbaijan drama and folklore of the 19^th century” to the post graduate and doctoral students at the Institute. Speaking about the influence of the folklore genres such as proverbs, sayings, anecdotes, folk dramas on the dramaturgy of Mirza Fatali Akhundzade and Najaf Bey Vazirov, the scientist said that folkloric elements used in dramas written during this period brought nationalism and new freshness to those works, strengthened the satirical spirit of the plays, created the opportunity to convey the democratic ideas of the writers, the modernity and innovation they brought to the literature to the people in a simple and clear language. She mentioned that folk art had developed together with the people and in each period had become the most pure and sincere expression of the desires and dreams, life experience. The lecture was met with interest by the audience and caused a wide scientific discussion.
