The employee of the Institute of Folklore made a report about the epic “Koroglu” in the program “Durna teli”
On the 12th of Aynur Ibrahimova, the leading researcher of the Department of Folklore and Written Literature of ANAS Institute of Folklore, PhD in Philology, associate professor, was a guest on the live broadcast of the program “Durna teli”, which is a joint project of Azerbaijan Radio and Turkey’s TRT 1 – “Voice of Turkey” radio.
In the one-hour program broadcast in the Turkic world, the place, variants and versions of the epic “Koroglu” in the world epic studies, the issues of collecting and publishing the epic, as well as the continuing traditions of the epic in written literature were discussed.
Our colleague said that after the independence of Azerbaijan, the increase in interest in spiritual monuments and the rise of the attitude to intangible heritage to a new level led to the rise of scientific attention to the national epic, which preserves a large arsenal of spiritual values. As an indicator of this trend, in recent years numerous scientific studies on “Koroglu” have appeared in different styles and in different aspects. As it is known, the heroic epic is a mirror of the people’s spirituality and national ideology, so both the epic itself and the direction and purpose of research related to it remain one of the most relevant topics for folklore studies.
From this point of view, summarizing the history of Azerbaijani choreology with a history of almost a century, its place and position in the world epic-study and the scientific experience gained is also important for determining future perspectives. Another issue that determines the relevance of the topic is the creation of another concrete information base that will assist the ongoing processes related to the recognition and protection of the intangible heritage of the Azerbaijani people at the international level.
