As it is known, at the informal summit of the Organization of Turkic States held in Gabala in 2025, the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev put forward the initiative to solemnly celebrate the 100^th  anniversary of the First Turkological Congress in 2026 and signed a relevant Order in this regard. In accordance with the Order, this year a series of events dedicated to the 100^th  anniversary of the Turkological Congress are being held by the scientific, educational and cultural institutions of our country.

These events serve to bring the Turkic world together, continue traditions from a common past to a common future, enhance scientific and cultural relations, and intensify integration among scientists at a time when strategic cooperation within the Organization of Turkic States is deepening.

These thoughts were expressed to AZERTAC by Hikmat Guliyev, Doctor of Sciences in Philology, Director of the Institute of Folklore of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences (ANAS). He noted that the XIV International Altai Communities Symposium, co-organized by the Presidium of ANAS and the Institute of Folklore, was also dedicated to the 100^th anniversary of the Turkological Congress. In addition to the Turkological Congress, the symposium will feature panel discussions on topical issues of Altai studies.

The main goal of the discussions is to adapt research in the field of Altai studies and Turkology to the requirements of the modern era and to strengthen scientific relations among Turkic states. The event is attended by 121 speakers from 15 countries. Among them are well-known scientists and professors invited from the Turkic world as well as from European countries. These experts will act as panel leaders and speakers at the four-day symposium, which will take place from September 9 to 12.

According to H. Guliyev’s thought, one of the main goals set within the framework of the 100^th anniversary of the Turkological Congress at ANAS is to expand the scope of Turkological science.
