A New Publication: Ahmad Jafaroglu’s Folklore Studies

A monograph entitled Ahmad Jafaroghlu’s Folklore Studies by Professor Almaz Hasangizi, Chief Researcher at the Department of Folklore of the Turkic Peoples of the Institute of Folklore of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences (ANAS), has been published.

The book is dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the First Turkological Congress. The scientific editor of the publication is Professor Tofig Malikli, the foreword is written by Professor Osman Fikri Sertkaya and the reviewers are Professor Sebahattin Shimshir and Professor Parvana Bayram.

In the monograph the folklore studies, folkloristic research and broader Turkological scholarship of Ahmad Jafaroglu, one of the most prominent representatives of the 20th century Azerbaijani intellectual community, a world-renowned Turkologist and a long-serving professor at the Department of Turkish Language and Literature of Istanbul University are studied. His contributions to these fields are analyzed in a systematic and comprehensive manner.

In the foreword to the book Professor Osman Fikri Sertkaya describes Ahmad Jafaroghlu as the world’s third greatest Turkologist after Mahmud al-Kashgari and Friedrich Wilhelm Radloff.

The volume also highlights Ahmad Jafaroghlu’s contributions to Turkology and sheds light on previously understudied aspects of his life and scholarly career through memoirs and other historical sources.
