Academician Kenjekhan Matizhanov: “The epic Alpamysh is the Polar Star of the cultural code of the Turkic world”
These ideas were expressed by the Director General of the Institute of Literature and Art named after M. Auezov, academician Kenjekhan Matizhanov, spoke at the international scientific symposium “From Ashiq Alasgar to Uzeyir Hajibeyli: cultural codes of the Turkic world” dedicated to the 140th anniversary of Uzeyir Hajibeyli.
Academician noted that the epic “Alpamysh Batyr”, one of the most prominent examples of classical heroic epics of the Turkic peoples, has a special role in the formation of historical legends and epic tradition of the Golden Horde period. Academician K.Matizhanov assessed the dualistic character in the composition of the epic, the adaptation of mythological motifs to historical consciousness and the stability of the plot in various versions as the main artistic features of the work.
The scientist mentioned that the geography of the distribution of “Alpamysh” includes folklore versions of Kazakh, Uzbek, Tatar, Karakalpak and other Turkic peoples, starting with the heroic tale of the Altai region “Alip Manash”. He also brought to the attention that the epic had an invaluable role in the expression of ethno-cultural identity, the adoption and preservation of the Jira tradition of the Konirat tribe, the study of written texts, their features of textual studies and inclusion in scientific circulation. He also noted the relevance of the comprehensive study of the work by modern folklore methods.
