Director of the Institute of Folklore of ANAS, Doctor of Sciences in Philology Hikmat Guliyev spoke at the International Scientific Symposium “From Ashiq Alasgar to Uzeyir Hajibeyli: cultural codes of the Turkic world” dedicated to the 140^th anniversary of Uzeyir Hajibeyli. The scientist noted that in accordance with the motto by President Ilham Aliyev “Our family is the Turkic world”, the symposium brought to the attention two great summits uniting the Turkic world – Ashiq Alasgar and Uzeyir Hajibeyli.

“I believe that the path from Ashiq Alasgar to Uzeyir Hajibeyli is actually a path that contains the common cultural codes of the Turkic world” said Hikmat Guliyev, mentioning that the “communication” between Ashiq Alasgar and Uzeyir Hajibeyli took place in the Turkic ethnocultural semio-sphere.

According to the director’s thought, the aesthetic model built by Ashiq Alasgar on instruments and words was transferred to music and classical form in Uzeyir Hajibeyli’s activity. Just as Ashiq Alasgar elevated the classical ashiq poetry to the pinnacle, Uzeyir Hajibeyli benefited from the traditions of folk art and brought them to the level of professional music.
