The fourth volume of “Western Azerbaijan folklore” series was published by the decision of the Scientific Council of the Institute of Folklore of ANAS.

The materials in the book were collected in different years by Doctor of Sciences in Philology Hikmat Guliyev, Doctor of Sciences in Philology Safa Garayev and PhD, associate professor Laman Vagifgizi (Suleymanova). The compiler of the book and the author of the preface is PhD, associate professor Laman Vagifgizi (Suleymanova). The scientific editor of the book is PhD, Associate Professor Aziz Alakbarli.

The materials in the book were collected from residents of West Azerbaijan settled in Baku and Naftalan, Sheki and Goranboy regions and Igdir region of the Republic of Turkey. The collection consists of parts such as “Mythological texts, legends and rumors”, “Beliefs”, “Information about plants”, “Explaining dreams” “Ethnographic texts”, “Memories”, “Tales”, “Anecdotes”, “Lullabies and songs”, “Proverbs and sayings”, “Games and performances”, “Names” and so on.

The materials collected in the book not only cover the main genres of rich Azerbaijani folklore, but also combine local variants, linguistic and stylistic features of the region, as well as specific shades of folklore.

This book, presented as the fourth IV volume of the “Western Azerbaijan folklore” series, is of particular importance from the point of view of preserving the spiritual world, historical memory and linguistic – stylistic features of the ancient inhabitants of the historical Azerbaijani lands – Western Azerbaijanis and bringing them to future generations.
