The Institute of Folklore is researching the epic activity of the Turkic peoples
The book “Edigey in epic creativity of Turkic peoples” by the senior researcher of the department of Folklore of Turkic peoples of the Institute of Folklore of ANAS, PhD. in Philology Gumru Shahriyar has been published. In the book the variants and typology of the epic “Edigey”, one of the magnificent monuments of the Golden Horde era, the place of the epic in the world and especially in the Turkic (based on the geography of distribution, Kipchak, partly Karlug and Oghuz) epic system.
In the book it is noted that the epic “Edigey” is a cultural monument that stands among the most magnificent epos of the world epic tradition with its humanistic ideas, universal human values, artistic content and beauty of form. The epic “Edigey”, a product of the Turkic epic tradition of Central Asia and the Eastern Caucasus in the Middle Ages, is closely connected with Azerbaijani epics in terms of genetic codes, archetypal formulas. In this regard, the fact that the epic has become an object of study of Azerbaijani folklore studies, at the same time gives a new look and comparison angle to many issues of the structure of Azerbaijani epics, especially their plots and motifs.
The scientific editor of the book published by the decision of the Scientific Council of the Institute of folklore of ANAS is Doctor of Philology, Professor Seyfaddin Rzayev and the reviewer is PhD in Philology Elnara Amirli. The book was published in the publishing house “Science and education”.
