At the Institute of Folklore the artistic and semantic characteristics of Karabakh folklore are being studied.
The monograph titled “Artistic and Semantic Features of Karabakh Folklore” by Vusala Nasibova, PhD in Philology and Senior Researcher at the Department of Mythology of the Institute of Folklore of ANAS (Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences), has been published.
The monograph is dedicated to the semantic analysis of Karabakh folklore, which represents a rich branch of Azerbaijani folklore. The book analyzes folklore samples from the Karabakh region such as “bayati” (traditional quatrains), myths, legends, beliefs and other artistic expressions. It explores their artistic-semantic and mythological features. The folk narratives included in the research are studied not only on the level of artistic text but also by taking into account their deep historical and contextual characteristics. The author presented samples of Karabakh folklore as a symbol of the national identity of the people, moral worldview and folk memory.
In the monograph the quatrains from Karabakh region are presented as a symbol of the spiritual identity of the people. It was not only an example of folklore, but also the meaning of the system of poetic thinking of the people, stable in structure, in meaning it is a quartet system that reflects all the changes and dynamics of time, as a poetic genre it is one of the first sources of folk ethnopoetic thought.
