The scientific session dedicated to the 80th anniversary of Azad Nabiyev was held

On the 23rd of April in 2025 Baku State University hosted the scientific session dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the outstanding folklorist scientist, Doctor of Philology, professor, corresponding member of ANAS, Azad Nabiyev, jointly organized by the Department of Humanities of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences, the Institute of Folklore of ANAS and the Faculty of Philology of BSU. The event was attended by employees of the Institute of Folklore and the Faculty of Philology of BSU, students and intellectuals invited from other scientific and educational institutions.

Making an opening speech at the event, head of the department of Azerbaijani oral folk literature of BSU, Professor Sahar Orujova said that, Azad Nabiyev had a special role in Azerbaijani folklore-study. Then she noted that, the department created by A.Nabiyev was a vivid example of the scientific and organizational skills of the late scientist and this department continues the traditions founded by A.Nabiyev.

Then academician Teymur Karimli mentioned in his speech that, A.Nabiyev’s scientific heritage remains relevant today. Academician said that the staff trained by Azad Nabiyev is successfully operating in various institutions of the Republic today.

Director of the Institute of Folklore of ANAS, PhD in Philology, Associate Professor Hikmat Guliyev said that, A.Nabiyev played an important role in increasing his scientific interest in folklore and coming to this field of science. In his speech H.Guliyev mentioned that A.Nabiyev brought to the field of research many issues that had not been paid attention to in our folklore studies before.

Professor Ramil Aliyev made a report on the theme “Azad Nabiyev and folklore cultural heritage” and commented on the problems raised in various scientific works of the scientist.

The different reports were made by some scientists such as “Prominent researcher and propagandist of Azerbaijani folklore” by Associate professor Etibar Talibli, “Azad Nabiyev’s association in our national folklore” by Doctor of Sciences in Philology, associate professor Galib Sayilov, “The genres formed about the ethno-psychological thinking” by PhD, associate professor Kamala Islamzade.

Then the scientists such as Professor Jalil Nagiyev, Professor Seyfaddin Rzasoy and associate professor Maharram Valiyev shared their memories and sincere words about the scientist with the participants.
