A new director has been appointed to the Institute of Folklore ANAS

Doctor of Sciences in Philology Hikmat Guliyev has been appointed director of the Institute of Folklore of ANAS. President of ANAS, academician Isa Habibbeyli, introduced the new director to the staff of the Institute.

The deputy director of the Institute of Folklore PhD, associate professor Afag Ramazanova and the heads of departments such as Professor Seyfaddin Rzasoy, Professor Fuzuli Bayat and Professor Afzaladdin Asker spoke at the event and considered the decision of the ANAS administration to appoint a new director to the institute commendable.

Speaking at the end the new director of the Institute of Folklore, Doctor of Philology, Associate Professor Hikmat Guliyev, expressed his gratitude to the leadership of ANAS for the shown trust.

Academician-Secretary of ANAS, Academician Arif Hashimov, also attended the event.

Hikmet Valeh oglu Guliyev was born on the 10th of April in 1985 in the village of Chopadere of Zangilan region. He graduated with honors from the Faculty of Philology of Baku State University in 2002-2006 with the Bachelor’s degree and 2006-2008 with the Master’s degree.

In 2010-2013 he worked as a tutor (academic advisor) at the Faculty of Philology of Baku State University and since 2013 he has been working as the scientific secretary of the Presidium of ANAS. At the same time, he is a leading researcher at the department of Folklore Theory of the Institute of Folklore of ANAS.

In 2015 Hikmat Guliyev defended his thesis on the topic “The Wise Old Man Archetype in Azerbaijani Folklore” at the Institute of Folklore of ANAS in 2015 and he defended his doctoral dissertations on the topic “Internet Folklore: Theoretical-Methodological Context and Folkloric Meaning Creation” in 2024.

Doctor of Philology Hikmat Guliyev is the author of 6 books, about 60 scientific articles published in the republic and abroad, a participant in a number of international conferences. His articles on Internet folklore have been published in journals indexed in international databases (Web of Science, Scopus, etc.).

He is married and has two children.
