Associate Professor of the Institute of Folklore gave an interview to International Radio
On the 5th of December the leading researcher of the Institute of Folklore of ANAS, Doctor of Philosophy in Philology, Associate Professor Elchin Galiboglu gave an interview to the “Voice of Azerbaijan” program of the International Radio. The interview discussed the inclusion of Azerbaijani “tandoor” craftsmanship and bread-making methods on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity by UNESCO, the specialized agency of the United Nations for Science, Education and Culture a few days ago.
It was noted that this is a significant event. The issue in question is not only a matter of Azerbaijan material culture, but it primarily testifies to the antiquity of our people, their sedentary culture, their uniqueness among nations and the antiquity of statehood traditions. Baking is an expression of a people’s unique place on the stage of history.
Speaking about the methods of laying the tandoor in different regions of Azerbaijan, our employee emphasized that it is one of our moral obligations to preserve and convey the culture of baking to future generations.
It should be noted that on the 4th of December in 2024 at the 19th session of the UNESCO Intergovernmental Committee on intangible cultural heritage in Paraguay, the nomination “tandoor crafts and baking culture in Azerbaijan” was successfully included in the Representative List of humanity on Intangible Cultural Heritage.
Thus, the number of samples of Azerbaijan’s cultural heritage in the UNESCO List reached 24.
