The republican scientific conference was held on the topic “Western Azerbaijani folklore: problems and perspectives”

On the 13th of September in 2024 the Institute of Folklore of ANAS and the public union “Folklorists” held the Republican scientific conference on the theme “Folklore of West Azerbaijan: problems and prospects”. The conference was opened by the deputy director of the Institute of Folklore ANAS, PhD, Associate Professor Afag Ramazanova opened and noted that the conference was held for the purpose of studying the modern state of Western Azerbaijani folklore, which is an integral part of Azerbaijan as well as all-Turkic folklore, revealing its regional uniqueness, the deportation of Western Azerbaijanis from their historical lands, and the impact of this on regional folklore. She expressed her confidence that the event would create opportunities for a larger-scale study of the oral heritage of this region, which had its own traditions in the folklore geography of Azerbaijan.

Some reports such as “Actual problems of Western Azerbaijan ceremonial folklore” by Doctor of Philology Agaverdi Khalil, “Mevlut Suleymanli’s novel “Migration” in the context of the phenomenon of migration” by PhD Semiha Ozel Yaman, “Iravan ceremonies at SMOMPK” by PhD, Associate Professor Afag Ramazanova, “The art relationship of Goycha-Gazakh ashiq environments” by PhD, Associate Professor Ilhama Gasabova and others were made.

The conference continued its work in section meetings. Various reports covering the study of the oral heritage of Western Azerbaijan from the different aspects were heard and extensive discussions were held.

At the end the speakers were awarded with the certificates.
