The lecture on the theme “Structural-semantic features of “The Book of Dede Gorgud” and its place in the world epic tradition” by Professor Ramazan Gafarli

On the 3rd of April in 2024 the head of the department Dede Gorgud of the Institute of Folklore ANAS, Doctor of Philological Sciences, professor Ramazan Gafarli made a report on the theme “Structural-semantic peculiarities ofThe Book of Dede Gorgud” and its place in the world epic tradition” to doctoral students studying philosophy and sciences at the Institute. It was mentioned in the lecture that “Dede Gorgud” was one of the most magnificent monuments that the Oghuz Turks gave to the world cultural treasure. It is an example of a literary work that has no analogues in any nation, which reflects the traces of most social institutions, starting from the initial outlook of our ancestors to the historical events of the Middle Ages. To tell more precisely, in the epic the history of the Turkic national character, psychology, traditions, religious-philosophical views, morality, state building, heroism, family relations, oral and written language is reflected.

Speaking about the creation, structure, language and style of “The Book of Dede Gorgud” the professor also talked about the history of publication and research of the epic.

The lecture was received with interest by the audience and there was a wide exchange of ideas on the topic.
