The annual report of the Institute of Folklore for 2023

On the 7th of December the report meeting of the Scientific Council of the Institute of Folklore of ANAS was held. The meeting was attended by the President of ANAS, academician Isa Habibbayli, members of the Scientific Council and persons related to the issues on the agenda.

Opening the meeting, President of ANAS, academician Isa Habibbayli spoke about the research work carried out at the Institute of Folklore. Academician Isa Habibbayli said: “The echo of the processes of modern folklore studies in the world has become the leading scientific directions of this Institute. As it can be seen from the collections of folklore samples published in recent years, the achievements of the Institute of Folklore in the field of collecting are many. If the issue of the relationship of folklore and ethnography, which has remained unnoticed until now, is paid attention the Institute of Folklore can open a new direction in the country”.

Then, Director of the Institute of Folklore, academician Mukhtar Imanov spoke about the research work carried out at the Institute in 2023, organized events and new publications, including books published within the framework of the “Year of Heydar Aliyev”.

Then, deputy Director of the Institute of Folklore, PhD in Philology, associate professor Afag Ramazanova presented the annual report of the Institute for 2023. A.Ramazanova informed about the implementation of the work assigned to scientific institutions in connection with the implementation of decrees and orders of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, decisions and orders of the Cabinet of Ministers of the Republic of Azerbaijan, as well as state programs. She informed the participants about the events held in the Republic of Azerbaijan in accordance with the order of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan dated September 29, 2022 on declaring 2023 the “Year of Heydar Aliyev” and the books published in connection with the 100th anniversary of the National Leader Heydar Aliyev. In accordance with the order of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan on measures to declare the city of Shusha the “Cultural capital of the Turkic world” for 2023 dated December 6, 2022, the first book from the series “Shusha visible from folklore” was published (Shusha visible from folklore, Book I. Shusha folklore from Hasan Ikhfa Alizade’s folklore. Compiler: Afag Ramazanova. Baku: Elm ve tehsil, 2023, 122 p.) and noted that the other was being prepared for publishing.

In the report it is noted that in 2023 the Institute of Folklore carried out researches on 4 problems, 9 topics, 66 works in the direction of “Sources, formation, patterns of development and relations of Azerbaijani folk art”.

This year the research program “Semantic analysis of Zangazur folklore in the context of national-cultural memory and human wealth” of ANAS is being implemented at the Institute. Three books have been prepared for publication within the program.

In general, 6 books and monographs, 37 conference materials, 6 journals, about 300 articles were published during the year, 45 of them were published in abroad. 12 of the articles were published in international indexed journals.

At the beginning of this year the Department of Western Azerbaijan folklore began to operate at the Institute and by the decision of the Presidium of ANAS dated July 12, 2023 No. 16/11, the Department of Electronic Services was established as part of the work on the development of e-science.

In 2023 only 9 people were admitted to the doctoral and dissertation department of the Institute in two specialties – “Folklore Studies” and “Azerbaijani literature”. Two persons of the employees of the Institute were awarded the degree of Doctor of Sciences, 5 people were awarded with the degree of Doctor of Philosophy, 1 person got the title of professor.

Associate professor Afag Ramazanova said that in 2023 the Institute of Folklore organized the International Congress, one International Conference, six Republican Scientific Conferences, three Scientific Seminars, one Session, two Round Tables, three Commemorative events, five Presentations.

President of ANAS academician Isa Habibbayli considered the annual report of the Institute of Folklore for 2023 acceptable.
