The event dedicated to the 28th anniversary of the Khojaly genocide was held at the Institute of Folklore ANAS. At the event a minute of silence was honored by the memory of the victims of the genocide. The meeting was opened by the director of the Institute of Folklore ANAS, academician Mukhtar Kazimoglu Imanov. In his speech the academician noted that, on February 25-26, 1992, the Armenian Armed Forces committed a terrible genocide against the Azerbaijanis in Khojaly by the help of the 366th motorized regiment of Russia. The city was burned and as a result 1275 civilians were captured and taken hostage, and 613 were killed, including 63 infants, 70 women and 8 families were killed in the blockade of Khojaly.
Then the film about Khojali tragedy prepared by Folklore Studio of the Institute was looked at. Then the collaborators of the Institute such as the chairman of the department “Folklore ceremony” PhD, associate professor Agaverdi Khalil, Ph.D.Giymat Maharramli, Ph.D. Shakir Albaliyev, Ashur Adigozelov had speech about the Khojali genocide.
At the end of the meeting academician Mukhtar Kazimoglu-Imanov said that if one meaning of holding a series of events every year on the theme of the Khojaly tragedy is to remember our martyrs, the other meaning is to know ourselves as a people, to study the near and far history, take a lesson, not to forget the atrocities committed by our enemies.
