Famous scientist Osman Fikri Sartkaya was a guest at the Institute of Folklore

On the 14th of October the Institute of Folklore of ANAS held a meeting with Turkish researcher, famous turkologist Osman Fikri Sartkaya. Director of the Institute, academician Mukhtar Kazimoglu welcomed the guest and said that he was pleased to see him in our country. O.F.Sartkaya spoke about the epos of “Kitabi Dede Gorgud”, especially about the heroes Dirsa Khan, Bamsi Beyrek, Gan Turali, Banu Chichak, Gazan Khan and gave information about the researches in details. The guest also spoke about the thirteenth part of the epos “Kitabi Dede Gorgud” – “Killing of the seven-headed dragon by Salur Kazan” which is known to the world of science, as well as the mistakes in its original reading and publication. O.F.Sartkaya answered the questions of our employees and explained the new facts about the epos. The guest presented his own books and articles to the director M.Kazimoglu. Academician M.Kazimoglu also presented books, CDs and journals published at the Institute.

Let’s inform that O.F.Sartkaya was born on August 11, 1946 in Adana, Turkey. In 1968 he graduated from the Department of Turkish language and literature at the Faculty of literature at Istanbul University. So more than 435 scientific researches by him have been published in local and foreign scientific journals. O.F.Sartkaya is a former professor of Istanbul University and now he is on a pension.
