The event of the project “Epos Evenings” was devoted to the epos “Leyli and Majnun”
On the 24th of May the epos “Leyli and Majnun” was presented at the International Mugam Center within “Epos evenings” project.
The event was organized jointly by the International Mugam Center and the Folklore Institute of ANAS. Director of the Institute of Folklore, academician Mukhtar Imanov spoke about the significance of the project in terms of promotion of ashug art. He added that, the art of Ashug had ancient historical roots and had a special place in Azerbaijan folklore. That art had gone through various stages and incorporates many of the intangible cultural values of our people. The project will present with 8 eposes by famous artists of modern ashug art till the 25th of December.
Later the epos “Leyli and Majnun” was performed by a member of Azerbaijan Ashug Union Ashug Jahangir Guliyev. The epos about the love of two youths was met with interest by the audience.
